Fitzroy XPress Fitzroy XPress

To be proud of who we are. To be proud of where we come from. To be proud of where we are going.

The Walmajarri, Goonian and Bunaba people call Fitzroy Crossing home. Accompanying the wide open spaces, clear blue skies, and rugged dreamtime beauty is a wonderful feeling of family and being part of something special; born of an ancient people of deep spiritualism.

As small communities go, sometimes something special comes about that leaves a mark on a towns history. In 1982 a group of school kids of various ages were guided by their music teacher and mentor to put together 6 songs which were then performed at a local disco. And so began Fitzroy XPress of which 2 of those sprightly kids still hold their place in the bands line up including front man, lead guitarist and songwriter Danny Marr.

As a kid Danny travelled with his father throughout the Kimberley attending tribal ceremonies, dancing in corroborees and listening to his father telling stories of the old days. The songs sung by black stockmen around the campfire inspired him and he was often seen carrying a stick playing it as one would a guitar claiming that he will one day sing in a band like Slim Dusty. Danny now believes that country music is the modern way of telling the stories people love to hear.

Through many years of hard work and some changes, 5 piece band Fitzroy XPress have become one of Aboriginal Australia's favourite country rockers. Their music is an infectious mix of country and rock-pop which reflects the pace and lifestyle of isolated areas of Aboriginal Australia.

The new Fitzroy XPress album "Home Sweet Home" won "Album Release of the Year" in 2005 at Australia's most prestigious awards - The Deadly's held at the Sydney Opera House.

Fitzroy XPress truly reflect Indigenous Australia whilst their contemporary music encompasses the feelings, thoughts and lifestyles of their people. These boys from the bush are energetic and dynamic with more than a few generations of loyal fans throughout the country.
