Whilst a national NAIDOC theme is determined each year by the National NAIDOC Committee, each year the Kullarri NAIDOC Working Group selects a regional theme based on regional issues whilst also incorporating national issues. 2007 marks not only the 50th anniversary of National NAIDOC celebrations but also the 40th anniversary of the 1967 referendum and the 10th anniversary of the Bringing Them Home Report. In addition there are a number of milestones being reached in our immediate community.
The Kullarri NAIDOC Working Group wanted a theme which demonstrated the importance of one vision towards understanding and respect; respect for culture and the rights of others. They wanted the theme to reflect the importance of working together for a stronger future, where young people placed at the crossroad of traditional and contemporary lifestyles could walk confidently on both sides. This could all be portrayed within three words, "Visions of Respect".
