Beautiful Broome teenager Margaret Albert has just returned from an incredible journey to Los Angeles where she was the face of Western Australia for the annual G’Day USA event to promote Australia in North America.

This humble and shy high school student, clad in a glamorous designer gown, walked the red carpet at the G’Day LA Black Tie Gala Ball alongside legendary Australian swimmer Shane Gould. Margaret then appeared on stage with Harrison Ford and John Travolta to present awards to outstanding Australians Phillip Noyce and Kylie Minogue. Other high profile celebrities attending the event included Olivia Newton John, Vanessa Williams, Jude Law, Steve Waugh, Christine Anu and Bindi Irwin.

Margaret was given this once in a lifetime opportunity after impressing a panel of judges during Goolarri Media’s “2007 Kimberley Girl” modelling competition and deportment program for young Aboriginal women from around WA’s Kimberley region. “Kimberley Girl and Goolarri Media have opened up a world of opportunities for me and I never thought I would ever get a chance to do something so amazing and represent my people at an international event”, says Margaret. “LA was huge but I had a fantastic time.”

During her trip, Margaret was photographed by top Hollywood Photographer Michael Higgins for her modelling portfolio and modelled at the 2008 Western Australian Designer Showcase in West Hollywood for WA labels including Pierucci, Aurelio Costarella, Belle Bijoux, Su Designs and in jewellery from Lust Pearls and Lisa Cooper Designs.

Margaret was accompanied by Kira Fong from Goolarri Media who also attended G’Day USA to promote Western Australian Indigenous Musicians and Goolarri Media’s Television Productions as part of the week long Los Angeles activities encouraging ties between Australian businesses and the US market.

This activity was proudly sponsored by Goolarri Media Enterprises, Western Australian Trade and Investment Office, Down Under Answers America, Western Australian Music Industry Association and Linneys Pearls of Broome.
