Big Break for Young Broome Girl

15 April 2008, 1:29pm

15 year old Broome school girl Emma Sibosado will get her big music break on Saturday April 19 for the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Kimberley Indigenous Performing Arts Showcase.

Emma's beautiful original rendition of "Sail On"; written by her cousins from the Pigram family; thrilled the judges of Goolarri's Young Talent search who praised her vocal ability and moving performance.

Goolarri Media Managing Director Mr Kevin Fong said we pride ourselves on giving our youth the "Wings to Fly" and further highlights the importance of continued enabling and capacity building investment by government and the business community to make a difference and provide opportunities.

Goolarri Media's Chairperson Stephen Albert says "It is great to see this kind of young talent emerging out of Broome. Emma has an incredibly bright future in front of her and is someone to look out for as she matures." Mr Albert urged the community to support the wonderful array of talented artists.

Ms Kira Fong Goolarri Music and Events Manager said Emma will open the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Kimberley Indigenous Performing Arts Showcase at Goolarri Media's Outdoor Venue and will perform "Sail On" with a full 7 piece back up band consisting of some of Broome's legendary musicians including Lorrae Coffin, Damian Watkiss, Guy Ghouse, Arnhem Hunter, Lyndon Jenkins, Bronwyn Houston and Susie Quicke.

When asked about her upcoming performance Emma said "I am nervous but also really excited at this great opportunity. I have never performed with a full band before and it is going to be an incredible experience to be a part of it. I am also really honoured to be singing an original which was written by my family."

The Rio Tinto Iron Ore 2008 Kimberley Indigenous Performing Arts Showcase sponsored by Goolarri Media and the Department of Culture and the Arts, will focus on Indigenous women with nationally acclaimed Gina Williams flying in from Melbourne and Australian Idol 2006 runner-up Jessica Mauboy joining the likes of Djiva, Tahnee Carrie, Lorrae Coffin and Irene Jimbadee for this exciting music showcase.
