Live Well - Kimberley Active: Get Moving & Healthy Tucker Campaign

Broome Launch

The Live Well Campaign is a strategic health Promotions campaign aimed at rasing awareness in the Indigenous Kimberley community to the benefits of physical activity and good nutrition. A media campaign will target the entire Kimberley regional audience and on-the-ground programs will be run in Broome and Bidyadanga to engage community members in different physical activity and  nutrition programs.

The launch of the "Live Well" campaign in Broome is Thursday 30th October from 1:30pm to 4pm at Goolarri Media by the WA Deputy Premier and Health Indigenous Affairs Minister, the Honourable Kim Hames. The launch will involve activity programs for the community as well as the opportunity to view and listen to the media for the "Live Well" campaign. Incorporated in the days events will be samples of healthy food for people to taste and fun activities such as basketball, tug of war, breakdancing, Nintendo Wii sport games and many more for all to enjoy.

Part of the launch will be the signing by KAMSC and Goolarri of a smoke free work environment declaration to emphasise their personal healthy wellbeing. Chairman of Goolarri Media Mr Stephen "Baamba" Albert said... "We are encouraging all other Aboriginal organisations and community organisations to follow suit as a practical measure in really closing the gap and encourage the community to embrace and participate in the activities planned...... We hope to see you all at the launch and join in the activities"......said Mr Albert.

The main objective of the "Live Well" campaign is to teach the community to learn the importantce of living a healthy lifestyle and its benefits through developing and delivering culturally appropriate nutrition and physical activity programs with support from all the stakeholder groups.

The Department of Health, through the Office of Aboriginal Health has provided fudning for this program. A stakeholder group of Kimberley Health professionals has been formed to oversee the campaign. This stakeholder group has representation from Goolarri Media Enterprises, Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Council (KAMSC), Kimberley Division of General Practice, Kimberley Population Health and Garnduwa. Goolarri Media and KAMSC have partnered together to deliver the project. Managing Director of Goolarri Media Mr Kevin Fong congratulated the stakeholder gorup and said the health messages are humorous and we should never underestimate the value and power of Edutainment.
