WA's only Indigenous modeling contest is gearing up for another year, as Fong's Store presents, Kimberley Girl 2009!

WA’s only Indigenous modeling event is gearing up for 2009 as we get ready to unearth the hidden beauties our region has to offer. Quickly becoming one of the most popular and respected community events in the Broome area, Kimberley Girl empowers participants and promotes positive attitudes towards Indigenous women of the region within the wider community.

Aged between 16 and 25, entrants will participate in professional and personal development workshops helping them to overcome the impact of social, economic and isolation disadvantages ensuring they all set the runway alight with confidence and poise. Past winners include Emma Sibosado, Emma MacNeil, Emily Jones, Mystique Dia and Shulyn Hunter, with all girls using their skills and confidence across in modeling and professional fields. Thanks to Kimberley Girl, entrants have addressed youth issues acting as motivational speakers, undertaken media traineeships, participated in the Perth Fashion Festival, World Youth Day and various NAIDOC events and notably gained international exposure representing Indigenous women in Los Angeles at G’Day USA.

Goolarri Media’s Chief Operations Officer, Kira Fong observes “It’s [Kimberley Girl] about seeing these girls emerge with renewed confidence and leadership potential through the Kimberley Girl program. Kimberley Girl gives them the wings, and our success is in seeing just one girl fly.” Many past contestants have developed in leaps and bounds personally and professionally. Kimberley Girl is clearly a success story and an asset to all those involved.

Goolarri Media is committed to long term outcomes for those involved with the Kimberley Girl project, creating positive role models for the youth in our community, who then demonstrate the importance of identity development, cultural awareness, self esteem, lifestyle and health.  Now in its sixth year, the production and execution of this electric event has been fine tuned and we are expecting to draw crowds close to 1000 to the Grand Finale.
