Safe Driving Messages win Goolarri Media 2 major Australian Video Producers Awards

Goolarri Media Enterprises shone at the 2009 Australian Video Producers Association Awards in Melbourne last night. Taking first prize in 2 categories, this local Indigenous media organisation showed it can compete with the best in Australia.

In the category for "TV commercial under $10,000", Goolarri's use of humour to get the message across about wearing restraints was a big hit with the "Don't be stupid, wear a seatbelt" commercial taking first place.

Goolarri also won first place in the "TV Infomercial" section with its "Shame" campaign directed by Mark Cochrane. This harrowing commercial was recognised for its ability to evoke strong emotions in viewers and to shock them into rethinking driving under the influence.

Goolarri television director Mark Cochrane says ‘It is great to see locally produced campaigns stand out on the national stage especially those with such important messages. The production of such campaign's, is not possible without the use of local talent and the support of the community including local police and emergency services."

Managing Director of Goolarri Media Enterprises, Mr Kevin Fong said "The opportunity to truly partner from the outset with the Office of Road Safety demonstrates how Goolarri's model is intrinsic to addressing the education of the community by addressing social needs directly through its products and services and appeals to Government to continue to support funding of ‘Edutainment' as a means of addressing these issues."

These two road safety campaigns were produced in partnership with the Western Australian Government's Office of Road Safety. Mr Roger Farley, Director of Strategic Communications at the Office of Road Safety said he was pleased with the high standard of production at Goolarri Media Enterprises adding that both of these advertising campaigns had been effective in reaching the target audience.

The AVPA Awards also recognised Goolarri Media as a finalist in the Corporate Category (budget under $5000) for its Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation (AERF) "Poison Party" commercial. This spot highlights the dangers of drinking to excess and increases community awareness about the warning signs of alcohol poisoning. Forming part of an overall media campaign in partnership with AERF it is due to be launched through Goolarri Radio and Television on Friday September 4, 2009.
